Some people have a problem with either exercise or diet. Others have a problem with both. These people know what they have to do, but simply cannot motivate themselves to do it. For whatever reason the desire to be more trim is just not strong enough in them.

Often times, this is an existential problem. In the most extreme form it is a question of why bother as one is going to die anyway. In other words, the desire for future gain does not out weigh the pay offs from immediate gratification.

A very similar predisposition can be found in people who are much younger. Even those in their thirties can have a lack of desire to be healthier or more vibrant after the loss of a significant other. One might think that they would be anxious to try again with someone other. However, that desire may take some time to re-emerge.

One of the best things to do in instances such as these is to simply wait before starting a complete health routine. Time is on a younger person's side and will soon return, causing a renewed will to live. That is not to minimize the pain or sense of devastation which often follows from a younger person's loss of a loved one. But it is to say that time does heal these type of wounds.

During this period, one should  never expect too much. Throwing oneself into a full athletic lifestyle, no matter how advisable, may be just too much. That is why one should merely start by cutting back back in the form of a fast.. Cutting back should be relatively easy as the  natural grief processes help in this endeavor.

The most important thing to remember is that self-indulgence is never an answer to one's misery. Sometimes this is a temptation. But one should never give into as it will only make matters worse. Too often it results in withdrawal by way of decreased happiness with others.
